After two weeks in captivity, abducted Regent of Akungba Akoko in Ondo State, Princess Oluwatoyin Omosowon, has been rescued by security agents.
Omosowon was reportedly rescued by a combined team of police and State Security Service.
According to the state SSS Director, Christian Ojobor, the leader of the gang of kidnappers died during the operation, while two others were arrested.
While handing over the Regent to Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Mr. Ojobor vowed that the state would no longer be a safe haven for criminals and kidnappers.
Responding, Mr. Mimiko expressed delight for the successful operation while also assuring the people that everyone connected with the kidnap will be duly prosecuted.
He said, “Stiffer penalty awaits anybody caught in the act of kidnapping and other related offences.”
It would be recalled that the regent and three of her aides were, on June 2, 2015, abducted by gunmen while on their way to attend an event at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
Two of her aides had regained their freedom, leaving the regent and one other aide in the custody of the kidnappers.
