INEC's Resident Electoral Commissioner has announced the candidate of PDP in the recent rerun election as the winner

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Yakurr II State Constituency of the Cross River House of Assembly, Mr. Eteng Williams, has been declared the winner of the rerun election conducted on Saturday.

The result sheet signed by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Ghesila Khan, which was made available on Sunday, indicated that Williams scored 4,380 votes to beat the candidates of the All Progressives Party and Labour Party, Bassey Inah and Eno Inam, who scored 3670 and 2180 votes respectively.

The Appeal Court sitting in Calabar had on January 8, 2016 nullified the April 11, 2015 House of Assembly elections for Yakurr II state constituency in which Williams of the PDP was declared winner.

Justice Onyekachi Otisi, who delivered the ruling, ordered that a rerun be conducted within 90 days.

The candidate of LP, Inah had proceeded to the Appeal Court on a 12-ground appeal after losing at the tribunal.

Inah’s lawyer, Mr. Egere Osim, among others had argued against the issuance of the certificate of return, Exhibit 24 RE10, to the first respondent, Williams, on the April 13, 2015, when the election had not been concluded.
