A man bought a new house but just as he was putting it in order, he discovered a weird note dating back to 15 years, telling him he was being watched.
Alex Moss
The man, Alex Moss, found the bizarre 15-year-old note saying “I am watching you” while he was decorating his new home.
He then tracked down the former resident who penned it.
Alex found the hand-written greeting behind a fireplace in his house in Prestwich and was stunned to discover that the mystery man ‘Darren Clucas’ would ‘always be watching’ him.
The note, written in 2001, read: "Hello, welcome to my room. It’s 2001 and I am decorating this room.
'Hope you enjoy your life, remember that I will always be watching you!"
“L8ers, Darren Clucas.”
Intrigued, Alex, who works in digital marketing, went on a social media mission to track down Darren. He shared an image of the note on Twitter, Reddit and Facebook , accompanied with the hashtag #finddarrenclucas.
Amazingly, a mutual friend helped the pair get in touch within just a few hours.
Darren soon tweeted Alex, telling him: “I’m not watching I promise. Enjoy Guest Road. What a house.”
Alex replied: “Haha the amazing power of social. Yeah I know! Good shower too.”
Darren, a sound engineer, responded: “Wait till the garden blooms in summer!”
Alex, who is a director online agency FireCask, said: “Yeah I can see things starting to sprout now. Should I send a pic of the room once it’s done or will it look weird for you?”
But Darren said seeing the house as it is now could make him a little emotional, having lived there with his family for more than two decades.
He tweeted: “Really hope you enjoy the house as much as we all did. We have had some awesome parties there!
“Family lived there for 20 years. Bit emotional leaving. I will hold on to the memories I have! But thanks mate.”
Speaking with Manchester Evening News, Alex, 31, who lives with his wife Anna, said: “I put the post on social media and within a few hours, he was tweeting me.
“It just goes to show the power of social media. I offered to take some pictures to show him, but I think seeing as he lived there as a teenager, it might have been a bit emotional.
“It must be weird for him having grown up there, now I’m living there with my wife.”
