Unknown gunmen have attacked a hapless nursing mother and her daughter, whisking away the woman into captivity and abandoning the girl by the road.

The unknown gunmen in the early hours of Friday stormed the sleepy Ogrute community of Enugu-Ezike in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State and kidnapped the 34-year old nursing mother, Mrs. Rita Abugu.
The young mother whose husband just returned from the United Kingdom was said to be on her way to attend the burial ceremony of her late grand mother-in-law when the kidnappers struck.
The attack has caused severe anxiety within the community.
It is being suspected that they may have targeted her based on the return of her husband from Europe.
The husband who is said to be a business man and owner of Applause Hotel in Ogrute, was said to have specifically returned home for the burial ceremony.
It was gathered that the kidnappers had left the two-year daughter of the victim on the road during the operation. The baby was later rescued by passers-by.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebere Amaraizu said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
