Omokri said he is convinced that the suspended CBN boss would not be facing his current ordeal if he was not from a minority ethnic group.

Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide and author, has reacted to the arraignment of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, over alleged possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The Department of State Services (DSS) arraigned the suspended CBN Governor on a two-count of charge of illegal possession of a single-barrel gun and 23 live ammunition.

Operatives of the secret police had arrived alongside Emefiele at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, around 9:18 am on Tuesday for the arraignment of the suspended apex bank boss.

Reacting to the development in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, Omokri said the treatment meted out to Emefiele is a “travesty”, adding that the charges against him appear politically motivated.

The former presidential aide said he is convinced that the suspended CBN boss would not be facing his current ordeal if he was not from a minority ethnic group.

He wrote: “Let me go on record as saying that I strongly believe what is being done to the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria is a travesty.

“The charges against him appear politically motivated. He does not deserve this treatment. If he were not a minority, I am convinced he would not be facing his current ordeal. My prayers are with you Godwin Emefiele.”
