In what will come across as a really horrific development, sporadic gunshots rented the air behind Government Technical College along Agyana road in Abaji when gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded the area, Daily Trust reports.

City & Crime reports that their attempt to kidnap residents of the area was foiled by the vigilantes.

Daily Trust gathered from a member of the vigilante group who was part of the operation but craved anonymity that the incident happened around 11: 45 pm.

He said the kidnappers, who came in wielding sophisticated weapons, attempted to invade a Fulani settlement behind the college.

He said one of the vigilantes was alerted and they started shooting into the air to scare the kidnappers.

He said, “As the vigilantes were shooting into the air, the gunmen too were shooting but the vigilantes summoned courage and pursued them into the bush.”

Daily Trust reporter further gathered that the gunshots between the vigilantes and the kidnappers lasted for over 30 minutes, causing pandemonium, especially among the residents of Anguwar Wadata, Sabon – Tasha and Anguwar Ayaura- Pipeline and Agyana road.

There was no official response from the spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, Adeh Josephine, on the incident as at the time of filing the report last night.
