Wike, who handed over power to his protege and the incumbent, Governor Sim Fubara, spoke to the press on Tuesday.

Minister of Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has reacted to the crisis rocking Rivers State involving his successor Governor Sim Fubara and the State House of Assembly.

Speaking on Tuesday, the former Rivers Governor after a meeting with governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja said the main opposition party has taken over the matter.

He insisted it was in no way an ethnic issue, as some people had speculated.

There were claims on social media on Monday suggesting that what is going on in Rivers has some ethnic colouration as a clash between the Ijaws and the Ikweres.

Recall that the Rivers State House of Assembly attempted to impeach Governor Sim Fubara between Sunday night and Monday morning.

The PDP National Working Committee and some governors elected on the party’s platform, such as Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun), among others, met in Abuja earlier in the day.

“In politics, there are lot of internal wrangling. But you’re not going to say that because there are lots of internal wrangling, they’re not going to settle among themselves,” Wike said.

“I was the instrument. I had every power then to say where things should go. When things are wrong, you ask questions. It’s a party affair.

“Parties know how they resolve their own mechanism. It’s not an ethnic affair. Our party is looking into it. That’s what I’ll say. Every politician has his own interests,” he said.
