A shocking report on Malawi Star Times has revealed that angry residents of Blantyre in Malawi, beat up and set ablaze an unidentified young man for allegedly stealing the handbag which contained two smart phones, money amounting to K40,000 from a lady at Chinyonga bus stop.
Confirming the news about the incident, the Blantyre Police Force disclosed that the remains of the deceased is being kept at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).
It was gathered that mob justice is on the rise in all parts of Malawi as President Mutharika says he is shocked with the recent disturbing trends of mob justice where some people have torched and killed suspects of various crimes.
The president who spoke in a special address to the nation on Wednesday, March 30, said he condemned the acts saying those involved in the act are destroying evidence.
"These acts are condemned in the strongest terms. May you be reminded that this malpractice is against the rule of law, and will receive the utmost attention it deserves," he said.
