The Senate has surprised Nigerians by denying that it gave a deadline to publish details of the 2016 budget it passed.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki

On Monday, the Senate denied that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, gave a deadline for the publication of the details of the National Assembly budget.

Saraki had, before the National Assembly went on recess two weeks ago, promised that the
details of the budget of N115bn for the federal parliament, contained in this year’s annual budget, would be published within two weeks on its website.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, told journalists in Abuja that the current leadership of the red chamber would always carry Nigerians along in its activities.

Abdullahi stated, “I am not aware of any promise made by the President of the Senate on a specific date for the publication of the National Assembly budget details.

“What I know is that the National Assembly Budget Breakdown will be contained in the details of the budget when it is released.”

The Senate said the details of the N115bn allocation for the federal parliament would be included in the 2016 budget details being worked upon by the appropriation committees of the two chambers. Nigerians have frowned at the way the leadership of the National Assembly  had treated the document with utmost secrecy.
