This is the touching moment a dying twin embraced the sister in the womb after doctors uncovered an unbelievable condition about one of the twins.
A Kansas couple's unborn child, with a hole in his heart and an abnormal brain, can be seen embracing his sister in the womb in a breathtaking sonogram taken on Tuesday, NYDaily reports.
"Most twins, when she's trying to take pictures and stuff, they're kicking each other and hitting each other and she said with our twins it seems like she was very protective over him," mom Brittani McIntire told KWCH.
"We know we have a piece of them together that will last forever and it's special to have," father Ian told the station.
The McIntires, already with two children, were thrilled when they found out Brittani was pregnant again. However, the news was tempered when the Hutchinson, Kan., couple found out one of the twins would likely not survive birth.
"He's only weighing nine ounces and his sister is over two pounds, so big size difference," Brittani told the station. "His only chance of survival would be heart surgery but they wouldn't do heart surgery on him because of his brain."
The recent doctor's appointments have brought grim news, but Brittani and Ian were moved by unborn Mason and Madilyn's affection for each other in the latest sonogram.
"I know I'm holding him, I'm carrying him but I just want to be there for him," Brittani told KWCH. "And she's the only one who can actually be there and holding onto him through it, so it's comforting to know that if he does pass he won't be alone."
"We know we have a piece of them together that will last forever and it's special to have," Ian said.
Despite the long odds, the couple is still hoping for the best for both of their unborn children.
"We're still going to trust in God that no matter what, he's been a blessing and if he makes it then it's a huge testimony to what God can do," mom told the station. "And if he doesn't then we have a special angel watching over us.
