The trial of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Tribunal progressed on Tuesday afternoon.

This was amid a surprise entry by the lead counsel of Saraki, Kanu Agabi (SAN).

Agabi was earlier represented by Paul Usoro (SAN), who said the absence of the lead counsel was as a result of flight hitches. Agabi came in after the tribunal had overruled the defence’s request for the adjournment of the trial.

The basis for the request was a case filed at the Court of Appeal by the defence. Testifying on Tuesday afternoon, the first prosecution witness, Michael Wetkas, told the Tribunal that N4 billion was traced to one of Saraki’s account with Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.

Wetkas said part of the money came in as loan. The trial was ongoing as at press time.
