Kachikwu's Empty Promise

The gross failure of the administration in not living up to its promise of putting a stop to this lingering fuel crisis has left Nigerians in pain and suffering.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, may not have the temerity to appear in the public for now except guarded by a retinue of security operatives. One is tempted to be so suggestive, following Kachikwu’s assurance that the current lingering fuel scarcity would not only abate but cease by Thursday, April 7, 2016.

This is the same Kachikwu who even with all the facts and figures of the fuel scarcity, opined that he had no magic that could make normalcy return earlier than May 2016. Public opprobrium over this and perhaps fear of loss of job turned the minister into a politician by promising what is unachievable.

Maybe, Kachikwu could have behaved as a bureaucrat in both instances by saying “The issue of fuel scarcity is being vigorously addressed and solution will be achieved soonest.”
