Amnesty said this in a short statement posted on its X handle on Friday, saying that after 89 days, despite nearly 200 people killed and hundreds of others displaced during the attacks, no justice has been given to the victims and their families.

Amnesty International Nigeria has expressed worry over the lack of justice for the victims of the deadly attacks and killings that occurred on Christmas Eve 2023 in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas of Plateau State, nearly three months after the incident.

Amnesty said this in a short statement posted on its X handle on Friday, saying that after 89 days, despite nearly 200 people killed and hundreds of others displaced during the attacks, no justice has been given to the victims and their families.

“Today, it is 89 days since the deadly Christmas eve attacks in Bokkos, Barkin Ladi and Mangu LGA of Plateau state.

“Nearly 200 people were killed in horrific attacks that also displaced hundreds of people. Up to today, no justice for the victims and their families,”
Amnesty said.

SaharaReporters had reported how gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked about 17 communities in the two local government areas on Christmas Eve, killing scores of people, injuring many others and burning several houses.

The police in Plateau State had announced the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the attacks, saying they were being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Similarly, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, had confirmed that the Nigerian military made some arrests, adding that the military was also working with state governments to reclaim all communities captured by terrorists across the country.

He had also added that once the communities were recovered, the internally displaced camps in the country would be reduced drastically as people would freely relocate to their homes.
