Ex-Rivers Governorship Candidate, Sobomabo Jackrich Arrested

Jackrich was arrested by men dressed in military uniform at his residence in Usokun in Degema Local Government Area of the state on Monday morning, April 8, 2024.

Sobomabo Jackrich, an ex-gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement in the 2023 general election in Rivers State, has been arrested.

Channels TV reported that Jackrich was arrested by men dressed in military uniform at his residence in Usokun in Degema Local Government Area of the state on Monday morning, April 8, 2024.

Jackrich, popularly known as ‘Egberipapa’ was a former militant leader who embraced amnesty during the administration of late President, Umar Yar’Adua.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the arrest, allegedly conducted in a commando fashion around 2: 00 am on Monday, resulted in the death of two of his aides.

Jackrich’s media aide, Soibibo Sokari, confirmed the incident to Punch, claiming that it was a case of abduction.

“Yes it is true he was abducted this morning. Two persons were killed, and their bodies were carted away along with him. We are still following up on the incident to get more details. We don’t know exactly who is behind it. But as the details unfold, we will let the public know about it,”
he said.

The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident, said that it was not a case of kidnap but that Jackrich was with security personnel.

“It is not a kidnapping. He is with some security personnel. That is all I can say for now,” she added.
