Reacting to the announcement, Tyowua dared any man to come to her father's house with N100,000 bride price and also questioned the Tor Tiv, asking if he trained her and her sisters in school.

A Benue state lady, Tyowua Maureen Doofan, has disagreed with the reduction of bride price to N100,000 by HRM Prof. James Iorzua Ortese Ayatse, the Paramount Ruler of the Tiv nation.

The monarch recently announced the reduction in a bid to encourage young men and women to marry.

The Tor Tiv declared that nobody in Tiv land should give anyone a list to buy items in the name of traditional marriage.

He said such is a borrowed culture and is abolished henceforth by The Tiv Traditional Area Council (IJIR TAMEN).

According to him, all a man needs to marry is N100,000.00, at least three elders accompanying him to his in-law's home and meeting with the bride's parents to inform them of his marriage intention.

Tor Tiv said the bride's parents will in turn confirm from their daughter if she consents to the proposal.  Once this consent is obtained, the intending groom should simply hand over the bride price to the bride's parents and take his wife home.

Reacting to the announcement, Tyowua dared any man to come to her father's house with N100,000 bride price and also questioned the Tor Tiv, asking if he trained her and her sisters in school.
