Wada disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday after handing over the leadership of the unit to his successor, Ahmadu Shuaibu.

Chedi Wada, the outgoing customs comptroller of the federal operations units (FOU) Zone B in Kaduna, reports that smugglers are resorting to altering vehicles' chassis numbers to carry out illicit activities.

Wada disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday after handing over the leadership of the unit to his successor, Ahmadu Shuaibu.

He “underscored the importance of public awareness and compliance with government policies”.

He also “reflected on the myriad achievements and challenges encountered during his tenure”.

Wada commended the resilience of his team in tackling the hurdles posed by nationwide border closures.

He noted that smuggling activities have been curbed in the zone due to support from Bashir Adewale, comptroller-general of customs.

“FOU Zone ‘B’ Kaduna is now well-equipped and effectively managed, marking significant strides during my six-month stewardship,” he said.

Wada acknowledged the role of the media in showcasing the unit’s efforts, while urging officers to prioritise knowledge acquisition and diligent execution of duties.

“Total commitment and dedication have been the cornerstone of my successes,” he said.

He urged his colleagues to follow suit, while disclosing his redeployment to the NCS headquarters in Abuja.

“With my redeployment to the NCS Headquarters in Abuja, I will work under the Enforcement, Investigation, and Inspectorate Unit,” he added.

Wada expressed confidence in the incoming comptroller’s abilities to build upon the foundation laid, signalling tough times ahead for smugglers.

Before his redeployment, Shuaibu was the comptroller, Ogun area command, Idi-Iroko, Ogun state.
