A man has brutally used a knife to stab his brother to death in Ebonyi State during a scuffle as people watched.

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 35-year-old man, Titus Agashi, for stabbing his younger brother to death.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr George Okafor, confirmed the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abakiliki.

He noted, however, that the police had yet to ascertain the reason for the stabbing.

Okafor said that the matter was reported to the police on March 22, explaining that the incident occurred at Nwogayi Market in the Izzi Local Government Area of the state.

“Our officers at Izzi Divisional Police Station visited the scene where they retrieved and deposited the corpse at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Ndubia for autopsy.

“The suspect is in our custody but the matter will soon be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command for discreet investigation.

“We are yet to ascertain the cause of the quarrel which led to the stabbing but will get to the root of the matter,” he said.

A source close to family, told NAN on condition of anonymity that the suspect stabbed the victim on the chest during a heated argument on a family issue.

“Sympathisers, who stormed the scene, rushed the victim to the hospital but he died on the way.

“Titus took to his heels afterwards but we are happy to hear of his arrest by the police,” the source said.
