The university considered the open demonstration of love as "immoral" and ordered the immediate suspension of Mansur till further notice.
A 200-level student of the department of Computer Science at the Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State, identified as Abdullahi Juli Mansur, has been suspended by the school's management.
Mansur's suspension was announced in a circular issued on Tuesday with Ref. no. AUS/REG/54, dated 14th May, 2024 after a viral video showed a moment he displayed his affection to a female schoolmate on campus.
The university considered the open demonstration of love as "immoral" and ordered the immediate suspension of Mansur till further notice.
The memo signed by Sani A. Usman, a deputy registrar, said a disciplinary committee had also been constituted to further examine the development.
The suspended student was seen on a short video clip that went viral on social media when he attempted to extend a red bouquet to a female student in the school premises.
Although the supposed admirer did not accept the offer of the "lover boy" in public, the mild drama attracted the attention of other students who lit up the atmosphere with cheers.
Barely 24 hours after the video clip occupied cyberspace, the management of the private university issued a notice of suspension of the "lover boy" for constituting what they believed was an immoral act on campus.
"This is to intimate you that Abdullahi Juli Mansur a student of department of computer science, with registration no. AUS/SCC/COM/22/1018 was suspended for displaying improper behaviour on campus," the memo read.
It was gathered that the university management took the decision to protect the guiding principles of the institution.
A source privy to the incident added that the suspension was initiated because the student had been warned against similar behaviours.
