The political fracas in Ekiti state deepens as the state’s Ministry of Justice, asked the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, to re-arrest and prosecute some APC chieftains for their alleged involvement in some crimes in the state.
In the request with reference number MJ-AD-792-54, dated for 24 October 2014 and signed by the Director in the Department of Public Prosecutions, Mr. A. O Familoni, the ministry requested for the re-arrest and prosecution of several APC leaders including the state Chairman, APC, Chief Jide Awe; two members of the state’s House of Assembly, Hon. Kehinde Boluwade and Sehinde Ogunrinde, and the former coordinator of the Ekiti state Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Prince Adeniyi Adedipe.
The letter has requested the police to re-open the cases in which each of the suspect was involved.
It can be recalled that Hon Boluwaji Kehinde and some others, were charged with conspiracy to kill, attempted murder and murder at Emure Ekiti on 3rd November, 2013. These charges were the result of an event at Isale Odo, Emure Ekiti, where armed men invaded the venue of a meeting of a breakaway faction of the APC called Bibire Coalition and started shooting at those present.
A former Attorney General in the state, Mr Wale Fapohunda had, issued a notice of discontinuance to most of the criminally-related cases involving members of the APC in the state, including that of Hon. Kehinde.
