Organizers of the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA, have responded to public criticism of its decision to unveil the nominations' list in Los Angeles, America.

The star studded event held on the night of Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Some fans, while expressing their disappointment, argued that an event of such magnitude, which aims at showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Africa and its people, ought to have taken place on the continent and not somewhere in America.

In response to the backlash, organisers explained the reason for their choice of venue.

"The reason for doing the nominations in LA is to leverage on the work its done on African Cinema .

"The awards will hold in Africa as usual and the venue will be announced tonight stay tuned",
AMAA said.

The AMAA awards night proper will take place  in South Africa, on Saturday, September 26, 2015.
