Former Minister and Deputy Chairman National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has opposed Buhari statement that the past administration of the PDP left an empty treasury full of debts for his administration.

There has been several responses to President Muhammadu Buhari's declaration of an 'empty treasury' left by the past administration. The People's Democratic Party through its Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh had earlier released an official statement in defense of the Goodluck Jonathan regime.

Now, Former Minister and Deputy Chairman National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has also debunked the claim by President Buhari that former president Goodluck Jonathan left for him an empty treasury.

He buttressed his criticisms by claiming that Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on May 29 left a sum of $2 billion which was after the Governors in Nigeria had a share of the fund. He made reference to the character assassination of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan by the media outlets.

He said, “Government can’t tell us that there is no Excess Crude Account(ECA), Sovereign Wealth Fund(SWF), or are we saying the Federal Inland Revenue Service(FIR) and related agencies had not in the last one month been generating revenue?

“Until they are able to prove they had no receipts from these government agencies in the last one month before Nigerians can now buy into Mr. President’s claims of an empty treasury.”

He went on to heap praises on Goodluck Jonathan for making Nigeria the largest economy in Africa despite the dwindling global prices of oil which affected the economy of the country adversely.
