The Edo state House of Assembly has been thrown into a state of pandemonium following the dramatic impeachment of the former Speaker who was immediately replaced by a female.
On Tuesday, May 3, 2016, members of the Edo State House of Assembly, EDHA, impeached their Speaker, Victor Eboror.
It was not clear why the man was removed from office, but close watchers of political happenings in the state said they saw it coming and were not surprised that the lawmaker was sacked from the exalted position.
Also impeached by the Assembly was Eboror’s deputy, Festus Ebea. After both legislators were booted out of office, a longstanding member of the Assembly, Elizabeth Ativie, was elected as Speaker.
The following day gave birth to moments of fracas as impeached Victor Eboror and his followers stormed the legislative session and attempted to forcefully unseat the new Speaker, Elizabeth Ativie who was defended by a couple of supporters thereby throwing the house into a very rowdy session.
There was a strong struggle for the mace and a lawmaker was seen to have jumped from a height as seen in the video below:
