The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) probes the immediate ex-Governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio over a huge sum of N108.1 billion meant for the development of the state.

Ex-Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Senator Godswill Akpabio may be the next guest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC)  in a bid to recover embezzled state funds of N108.1bn.

This was prompted by a petition submitted by an Abuja based Lawyer, Leo Ekpeyong and several other indigines of the state who lodged complaints before President Muhammadu Buhari and the EFCC about the level of massive looting in the state.

According to reports, Ekpenyong is not the only one seeking probe of the former governor as some state indigines are also demanding for the investigation of the former Chairman of the Governors' Forum.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics and the office of the Accountant General of the Federation indicate that under  Akpabio who is known for ostentatious spending, Akwa Ibom State received a staggering N1.6 trillion from Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between June 2007 and May 2014.
