A fuel tanker has exploded while offloading fuel at Shakatu Filling Station in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State.
The incident happened at about 8pm on Thursday, January 30, 2025, along Kiyawa Road, Dutse.
The filling station and several nearby properties were said to be damaged.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with residents and commuters running for their lives.
"I was nearby when I heard a loud explosion. I rushed to the scene and saw that the fuel tanker had burst and the fire surrounded almost everywhere in the filling station," one of the eyewitnesses, Baba Nura, told Punch.
Spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, who confirmed the incident, said they received a report of the fire outbreak at about 8pm.
“We immediately rushed to the scene with the fire service men. For now, there is no report of deaths, but our men are at the moment at the scene of the incident and details would be released later,” the PPRO added.
