According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported the incident on his official X handle on Wednesday, the fire started around 2:30 p.m. following a gunshot and an explosion, which triggered panic.
A fire outbreak at the Talata Mafara Central Market in Zamfara State on Tuesday afternoon left over 25 people with severe burns, many of whom are now receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Talata Mafara.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported the incident on his official X handle on Wednesday, the fire started around 2:30 p.m. following a gunshot and an explosion, which triggered panic.
“We heard a loud bang, and then fire spread rapidly across the market. People ran in different directions, but many were caught in the flames,” a trader who witnessed the incident recounted.
Confirming the incident, the Zamfara Police Command stated that more than 25 people sustained burns and were immediately evacuated to the hospital for medical attention.
A Dane gun was reportedly recovered at the scene, but no arrests have been made yet.
“The perpetrator may be among the casualties. The investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion and apprehend those responsible,” the police added
