The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) confirmed the incident, stating, “A teenage girl was injured after being struck by a train near Chegutu. The girl was walking along the railway line when the accident occurred.”
‘’The girl was taken to Chegutu District Hospital for treatment. The NRZ wished her a speedy recovery and issued a safety warning, urging the public to avoid wearing earphones while near railway tracks.
“We urge members of the public to always be on high alert and refrain from wearing earphones when near the tracks,” the NRZ stated.
This incident follows a fatal train accident in Gweru in 2023, where a woman, Agatha Tadokera, was killed while walking near the tracks and wearing earphones. The NRZ has called for increased awareness, stressing that such accidents should be avoided to protect public safety.
