BREAKING: NAFDAC Uncovers Prohibited Drugs At Onitsha Bridgehead Market

Officials of the agency seized two trailer loads of unregistered narcotics, banned tramadol, and counterfeit drugs.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has discovered banned drugs at the Bridgehead drug market in Onitsha, Anambra State.

NAFDAC revealed this in a post on its X account alongside a video of the raid.

The drugs were hidden inside plumbing material shops.

Officials of the agency seized two trailer loads of unregistered narcotics, banned tramadol, and counterfeit drugs.

The tweet read: “In a startling discovery, NAFDAC uncovered prohibited drugs hidden inside PLUMBING MATERIALS SHOPS at the Onitsha Bridgehead Drug Market.

“Officials seized two trailer loads of unregistered narcotics, banned tramadol, and counterfeit drugs concealed within these shops.”


This comes days after it wareported that traders in Onitsha are currently battling losses occasioned by the continuous shutdown of six major markets in the area by security operatives for more than two weeks now.

Nigerian security operatives had taken over the markets and locked up every shop under the guise of clamping down on fake and expired drugs dealers.

The affected markets include Onitsha drug market, Oduwani (Power Tools and Allied) market, Surgical Line market, Plumbing Materials market, the Ogbogwu fashion line market, the Bridgehead provision market and part of the timber dealers market.
