Speaking during the auction in Abuja on Tuesday, NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, assured the public of a fair and transparent process.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has auctioned properties and assets seized from convicted drug traffickers, valued at millions of naira.

Speaking during the auction in Abuja on Tuesday, NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, assured the public of a fair and transparent process.

He emphasized that the exercise was aimed at dismantling the financial networks of drug cartels and deterring illicit activities.

Marwa highlighted that in the past, convicted traffickers would return to their assets after serving jail time, but the agency’s new approach ensures they no longer benefit from their criminal proceeds.

The forfeited properties were sold to the highest bidders, with the funds supporting NDLEA’s operations.

Officials from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) commended NDLEA’s transparency.

However, Chief Iyke Nwoko, former National Treasurer of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, called for a review of the government’s valuation process, arguing that high pricing made bidding difficult.

The auction included properties located in Lagos, Ogun, Akure, and Abuja.
