Canada has said it will join the peacekeeping force initiated by Britain and France in the event of a ceasefire in Ukraine.

This is according to Canada's Defence Minister Bill Blair.

He gave the hint on Wednesday at the Conference of Defence Associations Institute annual forum in Ottawa.

Speaking to reporters after his speech, Blair confirmed discussions are ongoing and assured his country “is ready and able to make a contribution to that force.”

The official, however, admitted there are important discussions that need to happen “with respect to security guarantees for Ukraine and foreign forces.”

Britain and France are at the forefront of a “coalition of the willing” to work out a peace agreement that would end the Russia-Ukraine three-year war.

Denmark and the Netherlands are expected to join the coalition, as well as Germany, the second-largest contributor of military and financial aid to Ukraine, after the United States.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Sunday hosted his colleagues at a summit in London as European leaders rally support for Ukraine amid recent rocky relationship with the U.S.
