A week after transferring popular Mexican drug lord, Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman to the prison of Ciudad Juarez, the border state of Chihuahua, the prison authorities have allowed his wife to visit him for 45 minutes.
Emma Coronel Aispuro Guzmán, the 27-year-old beauty queen wife of Mexican drug lord, Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, visited the cartel leader in prison near the Texas border where he is awaiting possible extradition over the weekend for about 45 minutes.
The drug cartel boss was transferred earlier this month from the maximum-security Antiplano prison from which he escaped in July 2015 to the Cefereso No. 9 prison just outside of Ciudad Juarez, across the U.S.-Mexico border from El Paso.
The California-born pageant queen traveled to the Mexican state of Chihuahua in secrecy out of concern for conflicts between the Sinaloa cartel and other drug cartels and factions warring in the area.
According to Univision, El Chapo was quiet during the meeting with his wife, in what she described as a board room. The news agency is claiming that El Chapo has been receiving "conjugal" visits from his wife, which is against jail policy.
The Sinaloa cartel leader, who has twice escaped from Mexican prison, is being kept in a maximum security portion of the Cefereso No. 9 prison.
