A man has been caught in the act badly beating up a woman in broad daylight with many others watching the act.
A really distressing video emerged online, showing the woman being viciously beaten by a man in the street.
The clip, filmed on a mobile phone shows a woman lying on the ground in a street in Philadelphia as a shirtless man launches blow after blow at her face and body.
People can be seen watching and filming the brutal scenes but all they could do was stand there and watch without making any move to stop the assault and some of them actually laughed.
The video, shared on Fresco News, is said to have prompted a police investigation.
Speaking to a local news channel, the man who filmed the footage said the beating lasted for between 20 and 30 minutes - but no one intervened.
The man- who did not want to be identified - said people were “smiling, laughing, and just standing around like a normal day...like nothing was even happening.”
He suggested he didn't help for fear of being attacked, saying: “It’s bad out here.”
According to a police spokesperson, the attack occurred in the Kensington neighbourhood of the city.
Speaking to Buzzfeed news, they added that several people had called 911 after witnessing the assault.
Police later located the woman who was treated at hospital for minor injuries but did not give a statement.
