Google has started a free wifi project in New York, America as part of a trial process with the sole aim of spreading the facilities across the world in the nearest future.
The internet giant has advanced to establish a company for this purpose, called Sidewalk Labs.
This task will be achieved through turning 10,000 of the big apple’s old phone booths into ad-supported ‘Wi-Fi pylons’. These converted booths are also intended to provide cell-phone charging, free domestic phone calls and a touch screen information hub about the city and transit directions.
According to Bloomberg News, these ‘pylons’ will be rolled out across New York this autumn.
The excitement of this project is being felt across the world.
