This move is in line with the state’s laws and Islamic principles, which prohibit the sale and consumption of liquor and other intoxicants.

Officials of the Hisbah Commission have confiscated and destroyed 51 cartons of alcohol and 18 jerrycans of methylene chloride, a chemical locally known as Madarar Sukurdai, in Yobe State.

This move is in line with the state’s laws and Islamic principles, which prohibit the sale and consumption of liquor and other intoxicants.

The Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, who disclosed this in a statement said that the commission has also successfully resolved 565 disputes in the past year, addressing issues such as family conflicts, business disputes, inheritance cases, community disagreements, debts, farmer-herder clashes, and unpaid rents.

Most of these cases, according to him, were resolved amicably through reconciliation and understanding.

This enforcement action is part of the commission’s efforts to promote a more harmonious and law-abiding society.

Established in March 2024 by Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Hisbah Commission aims to address social vices in the state.

In a similar incident, the Hisbah Board in Yobe State destroyed over 170 bottles of alcoholic beverages valued at N450,000 in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area.
