In a statement he issued, the activist urged the National Assembly to consider the six-year single term bill.

Activist lawyer, Maduabuchi Idam has urged the National Assembly to consider the six-year single term bill.

He stated this on Thursday and claimed that President Bola Tinubu may be distracted by the phobia of 2027 elections.

Idam said Tinubu’s administration has not paid much attention to insecurity, stressing that Nigerians are at the mercy of hoodlums and bandits.

Idam said Nigeria cannot make progress with the four years-two-tenure system because no Nigerian elected officer is ever contented with just one term.

According to him: “I think president Tinubu is distracted by 2027 electoral phobia. Hence, little or no attention is given to Nigeria’s security sector. It is saddening to see insecurity multiplied.

“Nigerians now live at the mercy of hoodlums and bandits while those entrusted with the security of lives and properties are preocupied with permutations of future electoral victory.

“I wonder how many people will vote Mr. President after their burial? The situation is not different from my state.

“Apart from successfully taken picture with a certain socialite Obi Cubana, during his resent visit to the government house of Ebonyi State which was rumoured to be in connection of his birthday celebration, the governor is yet to attract a known investor to the state.

“He has no meaningful completed project to his name. He is concerned with sheepish and self-conscious consultations against wining reelection in 2027.

“I wonder any nation that will make progress with the tenure system been operated in Nigeria, where an elected leader will assume office only to start consultation for his next four years’ reelection even when he has not successfully achieved an item out of his campaign document.

“It is time the National Assembly considered the six-year single tenure Bill and give it the urgency it deserves.

“Nigeria cannot make progress with the four years-two-tenure system knowing that no Nigerian elected officer is ever contented with a single four-year tenure.

“My heart goes out to communities that have lost their members in Nigeria over avoidable security breaches.”
