A vigilante in the area, Danjuma Alkali, said the baby was found on Tuesday, around 5am when the vigilantes were about to retire back to their base after the night patrol.
A newborn baby, believed to have been abandoned by an unidentified woman, was reportedly discovered at a dumpsite in Unguwar Shadadi, Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
A vigilante in the area, Danjuma Alkali, said the baby was found on Tuesday, around 5am when the vigilantes were about to retire back to their base after the night patrol.
He said it was the cry of the baby, which was covered with a wrapper, that attracted the attention of the vigilantes, who immediately moved close to the dumpsite and found the baby.
He said the vigilantes, who later alerted people around the area, said the baby was taken to a motherless home as directed by an elder of the community.
“As the social welfare department of Kuje Area Council is on strike, the baby was taken to the motherless home in the area as advised by an elder of the Shadadi community,” he said.
The vigilante member, who also confirmed to our reporter that a similar incident happened two weeks ago, when another new born baby was found at an uncompleted building at Kuchiako area in the council, saying the matter was reported to the security personnel in the area.
The police in the area confirmed the incident.
