Benue police spokesperson Sewuese Anene confirmed the attack and said efforts are underway to restore peace in the affected area.

A fresh attack has again claimed at least 11 lives on the Afia community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack by armed herdsmen took place on Tuesday afternoon.

This is coming just days after over 50 farmers were massacred in a series of coordinated attacks across the state.

Community leader Iyorkyaa Kaave described the attack as “unprovoked” and accused the assailants of pursuing a “calculated agenda to displace indigenous farmers.”

His words: “Today’s attack on Afia was particularly brutal. The armed herdsmen stormed the community, opened fire indiscriminately, and killed 11 people on the spot. Several others were injured and are receiving treatment.

In just the past two weeks, more than 100 people have lost their lives in such attacks across Benue and neighbouring states.

Benue police spokesperson Sewuese Anene confirmed the attack and said efforts are underway to restore peace in the affected area.

However, tensions remain high, with residents demanding urgent intervention from the federal government.

“Our people are tired of burying loved ones. President Bola Tinubu must act now. We reject any negotiation with these killers,” one resident lamented.
