Imo Police Arrest Two Female Child Trafficking Suspects, Rescue Four-Year-Old Victim (Photo)

A press statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed that the operatives of the Scorpion Unit of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the suspects.

 

Two female suspects, identified as Joy Ugwu from Idah, Kogi State and Rosella Michael from Zamba in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have been arrested by the Imo State Police Command.

The two suspects, were arrested after being caught in Owerri with a four-year-old boy, Jaffa Umar.

A press statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed that the operatives of the Scorpion Unit of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the suspects.

Investigations revealed that the boy, Jaffa Umar, who speaks Hausa fluently, was abducted in Abuja while hawking vegetables by the suspects who brought him to Owerri and were negotiating to sell him for N2.7 million before their arrest.

A third accomplice, believed to be a nurse, is currently at large.

The child, according to the Command’s spokesperson, has been safely reunited with his family through coordinated efforts between the State Police Command and Zone 7 Police Headquarters, Abuja, while the suspects have been transferred to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID), Abuja for further investigation and prosecution.

Following the development, the State Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma, reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and dismantling trafficking networks.

He also used the medium to encourage residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency line 0803 477 3600.
