Mikel Obi himself has long maintained he was robbed of the 2013 award.

“Were you told you were going to win it before you came? Because I was told the same,”
Mikel Obi asked.

Toure’s replied. “You deserve it, Obi, to be honest.

“The season was perfect… you were instrumental,”
Toure added before he clarified he wasn’t informed of his win beforehand.

Mikel Obi played a crucial role as Nigeria won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and enjoyed a fine campaign in the Premier League too.
