The recent wave began on April 23 when the Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire PDP structure in the state to switch allegiance to the ruling party.

Amid a recent wave of defections within the main opposition party, governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are expected to convene in Abuja on Sunday to chart a way forward.

Recall that the past two weeks have been tough for the PDP as members continue to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The recent wave began on April 23 when the Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire PDP structure in the state to switch allegiance to the ruling party.

Their defection came barely a week after the governors met in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where they declared that they are interested in any coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The PDP governors dissociated themselves from the coalition being spearheaded by their former presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Similarly, all three Senators from Kebbi State elected under the platform of PDP are also on their way to the APC.

Sources privy to the development, said barely a last minute change, the emergency meeting is scheduled to take place at the Bauchi State Governors’ Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.

He said the meeting may also address some issues surrounding the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting scheduled for May 27.
