The statement added that the celebration will come with a “sit-at-home exercise in Biafra land”.

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB has announced the shutting down of all markets, schools, public and private motor parks in the Southeast.

The group led by Comrade Uchenna Madu says the southeast will be shut down on May 30, 2025.

The move, according to a statement issued on Monday by its National Director of Information, Edeson Samuel, is to mark the 2025 Biafra Anniversary celebration.

The statement added that the celebration will come with a “sit-at-home exercise in Biafra land”.

”MASSOB declares that “all markets, public/private motor parks, schools, banks, and other public business premises shall remain closed from 6am to 4pm on 30th May, 2025”.

The group noted that 2025 marks the 58th year anniversary of the Biafra declaration by General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

According to the agitators, the exercise is a “mark of honour, respect and patriotism to our father land”, stressing that it is a means of appreciating and acknowledging “the numerous sacrifices and prices our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters rendered for Biafra during the 3 years war of genocide against Biafra by the British backed Nigeria”.

They further explained that the closure of public places “is voluntary, not by force, it is a mark of respect and love for our fatherland”.
