He added that the death of a candidate as a result of the examination is regrettable after which a minute silence was observed in honour of the dead candidate.

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has refuted conspiracy theories suggesting regional bias following the technical issues experienced during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Recall that last week, Oloyede revealed that the board suffered technical glitch that affected the results of candidates in the five states of the South-East zone and Lagos. Some people have accused the board of deliberating causing the glitch so as to truncate the academic dreams of the candidates from the region.

However, at a meeting with the management of the board ahead of the release of results of the rescheduled UTME Examination today, Prof. Oloyede denied the allegation.

He added that the death of a candidate as a result of the examination is regrettable after which a minute silence was observed in honour of the dead candidate.

Professor Oloyede insists there was no deliberate attempt to undermine students from the South-East as every candidate is Nigerian and has equal opportunities.

His denial follows calls from some quarters, especially lawmakers from the South-East zone for his resignation over the technical glitch that affected over 300,000 students.

The South-East Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives on Tuesday called for the resignation of Oloyede over the technical glitch.
