A circular issued by the Chief Registrar of the FHC, Sulaiman Amida Hassan, notified members of the legal community that traditional manual filing for new cases in the Lagos Division will be discontinued as of Friday, June 20, 2025.

The Federal High Court (FHC) has officially announced that its electronic filing (e-filing) system will begin operation in the Lagos Division starting Monday, June 23, 2025.

A circular issued by the Chief Registrar of the FHC, Sulaiman Amida Hassan, notified members of the legal community that traditional manual filing for new cases in the Lagos Division will be discontinued as of Friday, June 20, 2025.

The Chief Registrar clarified: “However, all cases instituted before the commencement of the e-filing system will continue to be handled manually until their final disposition.”

The court also cautioned against any attempt by legal practitioners to understate claims or misrepresent documentation, as such actions could affect the correct calculation of filing fees.

“Any such infractions, whether intentional or inadvertent, will attract a penalty of N10,000 per filing in addition to the outstanding balance,” the circular warned.

Access to the e-filing platform requires all practitioners to possess a valid Legal Mail account, now a compulsory requirement for electronic submissions.

Law firms must also upload documentation relating to their Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, registration when setting up their chambers’ profiles.

The court has scheduled a two-day hands-on training session between June 16 and 20, aimed at familiarising practitioners with the platform’s functionality and compliance procedures.

The FHC strongly encourages full adherence to the new protocols to facilitate a seamless and effective rollout of the system.
