The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest of 52-year-old Canadian returnee, Mr. Morufudeen Idowu, for allegedly assaulting an officer of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) during an enforcement operation.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the incident occurred in the Ojota area after the suspect reportedly resisted arrest for unlawfully crossing the expressway.

Idowu was subsequently taken into custody at the KAI office in Oshodi, with the Commissioner stating that he will face prosecution under applicable Lagos State laws.

In a related development, Wahab disclosed that a dawn enforcement operation at Isokoko, near the railway line, resulted in the arrest of 23 persons.

The suspects were apprehended while allegedly dumping refuse directly on drainage channels, a practice the Commissioner described as a major contributor to urban flooding.

Wahab acknowledged the role of residents who provided intelligence that led to the arrests and emphasized the government’s commitment to holding the offenders accountable through legal channels.

Enforcement teams also arrested two suspects for open defecation along Agege Motor Road by the railway line.

Eight others were apprehended for open urination in locations including Allen, Opebi, and Governor’s Road in Alausa.

According to Wahab, all suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in line with environmental laws governing Lagos State.
