The Nigerian Army has successfully facilitated a peace accord between the Tiv and Fulani communities in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State, aiming to bring an end to years of recurring conflict and violence.

The dialogue, held on Thursday at the 6 Brigade Conference Room in Jalingo, brought together traditional rulers, political leaders, youth representatives, and other stakeholders from both groups.

The peace meeting was convened on the directive of the Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, as part of the Army’s non-kinetic approach to resolving conflicts and strengthening community relations.

Speaking during the engagement, Uwa emphasised the role of dialogue in fostering trust and sustainable peace.

He urged leaders on both sides to prioritise reconciliation, warning against actions or statements capable of reigniting hostilities.

“Peacebuilding is a shared responsibility. We must all commit to tolerance, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence if we are to make meaningful progress,”
Uwa said.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to working with civil authorities through peaceful means, noting that genuine and lasting peace requires the active participation of local communities.

Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Bali Local Government, Dauda Aboki, commended the Army for its proactive efforts, describing the initiative as a major step toward reconciliation.

He pledged the support of the local government and community leaders in sustaining the peace process.

The highlight of the meeting was the signing of a peace agreement by representatives of both communities.

Key resolutions in the pact included zero tolerance for criminality, adherence to the rule of law, promotion of inter-community harmony, and a collective pledge to resolve disputes peacefully.
