No fewer than two officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) were reportedly ass@ulted by unidentified individuals while conducting a lawful disconnection at a customer's premises over non-payment of electricity bills for June 2025.
In a statement released, BEDC said that Patrick Iyayi, and two linesmen, Mr. Andrew and Mr. Samson, were be@ten during a routine revenue drive in Benin City, Edo State.
The company stated that the incident occurred while the team was carrying out a lawful disconnection at a customer’s premises due to non-payment for the month of June 2025.
The statement revealed that in a disturbing escalation, her husband emerged from within the premises and allegedly struck Mr. Iyayi with a stone, resulting in a broken nose.
The injured BEDC staff was immediately rushed to Benin Medical Centre (BMC) for emergency treatment and discharged later that night around 10:00 p.m, while the alleged assaulters have been handed over to law enforcement authorities for prosecution.
