The incident triggered intense investigations within military circles, raising concerns about security and accountability within army ranks.

No fewer than five soldiers stationed at Letmauck Cantonment in Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State, have been dismissed from the Nigerian Army over the disappearance of rifles and ammunition during a recent clearance operation.

SaharaReporters learnt on Saturday that the dismissed soldiers, all ranked Private (Pte), reportedly disappeared for three days while on an official clearance operation, carrying rifles and 60 rounds of ammunition each.

The incident triggered intense investigations within military circles, raising concerns about security and accountability within army ranks.

Details of the dismissed personnel as obtained from military sources include: Brother Bright – Regimental Army Number 19NA/78/0309; Hassan Musa – Regimental Army Number 23NA/84/2215; Aminu Najib – Regimental Army Number 23NA/84/2851; Alhaji Abdullahi – Regimental Army Number 2344/84/3487 (dismissed on 21 June 2025) and one other.

Military authorities have not disclosed whether the missing weapons and ammunition have been recovered or the current whereabouts of the dismissed soldiers.

SaharaReporters had reported how three former soldiers dismissed by the Nigerian Army recently appealed to military authorities for redress and reinstatement, alleging that they were victims of an unjust trial process during the court martial that led to their dismissal.

The former soldiers said their dismissal was over lost weapons.

The ex-soldiers—13NA/69/1668 Lance Corporal Sadiq Saidu, 17NA/76/4932 Lance Corporal Demian Danjuma, and 15NA/74/3506 Lance Corporal Galadima Awyetu—had called for a review of their case, citing procedural lapses and what they described as a miscarriage of justice following a deadly ambush in December 2021 while on deployment under Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) in Zamfara State.
