Ortom said the South should be allowed to complete its eight-year term before handing over to the North.

Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has declared that he's in support of a Southern presidency in 2027.

He made the revelation in an interview on Thursday.

Ortom said the South should be allowed to complete its eight-year term before handing over to the North.

In a media interaction in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital, the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain distanced himself from the opposition coalition.

There are indications that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may emerge as the opposition coalition-backed African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential flag bearer.

This followed his recent comment where he hinted at running for the presidency.

However, Ortom said: “Till today, I, Ortom, believe in southern presidency, even if my party, PDP is producing a candidate for presidency in 2027, the candidate must be from the South. South should be allowed to complete eight years.

“So, for me, I am not supporting a northern candidate.

“I remain a member and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party; I am even a board member of my party and I don’t believe in coalition but where there’s need for strategic partnership, you will see me there.”
