How A Fake NGO Defrauded Traders Of Over N250m In Niger

It was gathered that the fake NGO promised to supply food items such as rice, maize, wheat, sorghum and semovita at subsidized rate to the traders.

The Niger State Police Command has launched an investigation into a syndicate that allegedly masqueraded as a non-governmental organization (NGO) to defraud several traders in the Maitunbi area of Minna of over ₦250 million.

It was gathered that the fake NGO promised to supply food items such as rice, maize, wheat, sorghum and semovita at subsidized rate to the traders.

It was further learnt that many of the traders deposited money to the fake NGO.

in June 2025 but none of them got any supply, as promised by the organization.

Disturbed by the development, the traders were said to have stormed the warehouse of the NGO to demand for their goods or a refund of their deposits.

However, upon arrival at the supposed warehouse, they met the plenty empty.

Confirming the incident, Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Police Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that after collecting money from the traders, members of the NGO absconded.

He stated that currently efforts are underway to arrest the perpetrators.
