A young Nigerian woman has taken to social media to share her experience of being dismissed from her job just days after speaking out in defense of a colleague she alleges was assaulted in the workplace.
According to her, the incident happened on July 10th during her night shift at a hotel and spa where she worked.
She said she stepped away briefly and asked the HR, a woman identified as Mrs Layo, to hold the reception for her.
Even though Layo had officially closed hours earlier, she agreed to help. While she was at the desk, the CEO of the company reportedly walked in and asked for his room key to be activated.
The lady claimed Layo couldn’t process the request since it wasn’t her duty, and that led to a heated moment. The CEO allegedly lashed out at her, questioning why she was on her phone and telling her, “Don’t you have sense?”
She said Layo responded respectfully, but things escalated. The CEO allegedly got physical, dragged her by her clothes, slapped her, and instructed that she be escorted out of the building — all of which she claimed happened in front of her.
Later that night, Layo was reportedly fired.
The following day, the lady said she saw Layo’s story on social media and left a short comment that read, “Justice for Layo. Girl, you were so respected.” But shortly after, she was called in by management and asked why she commented.
She claims she was honest about her reason and said Layo didn’t deserve what happened. By the next morning, she said she had been removed from the company group chats and sacked without pay.
As of the time she shared her story, she said it’s been six days and she hasn't been paid for the last days she worked or her overnight shifts.
She ended her story by saying she stayed silent out of respect, but she no longer intends to remain quiet.
