His revelation comes amid widespread speculation that Aisha had divorced Buhari, moved out of their home and reverted to her maiden name.

Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has disclosed that the late First Lady, Aisha Buhari, was by her husband’s side as recently as March 2025.

Adesina, who served in Buhari’s administration from 2015 to 2023, disclosed that Aisha was present in Kaduna during the former president’s last visit to his Kaduna residence before his final trip to London.

His revelation comes amid widespread speculation that Aisha had divorced Buhari, moved out of their home and reverted to her maiden name.

Professor Farooq Kperogi, a U.S.-based academic and media scholar, had alleged that the former First Lady was no longer married to Buhari at the time of his death. According to Kperogi, Aisha had dropped “Buhari” from her name and returned to using her maiden name, Halilu.

“Buhari was also alone when he later relocated to Kadun.

“In fact, when he fell ill and it was suggested that Aisha travel to London to care for him, she reportedly hesitated because she was no longer his wife,”
Kperogi claimed.

However, Adesina in his tribute to the late president, asserted that Aisha was by Buhari’s side in Kaduna just before his final journey.

He wrote: “It was Ramadan, and I joined him for dinner. The former First Lady, Aisha, was around and offered me some roasted meat (suya).

“Less than two weeks later, he travelled to London for what was said to be a routine medical trip. It lasted almost four months and he never returned, at least not alive.”

President Muhammadu Buhari died in London in June 2025 during a prolonged medical trip.
